Open Monument Day is part of a larger whole, the European Heritage Days (EHD). The European Heritage Days name the overarching theme for Open Monuments Day for each year, asking all participating countries to follow this theme. The theme for 2024 is "Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections."
On the Way! This year we are using the slogan "On the Way! On the road refers to being on a journey from A to B, being literally on the move and the transformation from old to new, past to present. Along the way you travel through (historical) routes, meet people you connect with and be part of different networks. Along the way! also refers to the Open Monumentendag weekend where our visitors travel from monument to monument. This year it is also about the journey between the destinations and the way you visit the monuments.
